About / CV
Augusto Esteves is a third year PhD candidate in Informatics Engineering (Human-Computer Interaction) at the University of Madeira. Here was where in 2010 he finished his MSc thesis in the same area, with work that won first prize at the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2010.
His research interests lie in lowering the cognitive demands of computer interfaces through the design of tangible interaction, and he has explored these concepts as a Visiting Researcher in several institutes. These include the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (2014), the Eindhoven University of Technology (2012), and the Korean Advanced Institute Science and Technology (2011).
In his free time he enjoys a good book, and when he can manage, plays football and squash, watches a movie or two, or plays video games. He actually practices Taekwondo, where he is a 1st Dan since 2013.
He is also member of the Barbusano Ecological Club and CouchSurfing, and he has done two InterRails across Europe, the latest being documented in a blog he created (in Portuguese) here. Although having no aspirations as a photographer, three of his photos are being used in public venues, such as the Schmap!! Prague Guide, MIMOA (mi modern architecture), and the Transportation Expo (MOVE). For more photos head to his Flickr webpage.
